Summer quiz results

The funny character ( ) is a detail from one of the panels that the German Renaissance painter Matthias Grünewald painted for the so called Isenheim Altarpiece. It can be now seen at the Unterlinden museum in Colmar (France). The panels depict the Temptations of Saint Anthony.



The painting is dated as early as 1515! Can you believe it?

Quite expressive and lord of the ringsish, isn't it? I should post something about medieval and renaissance representation of hell, it's like Jaws, Saw and A Nightmare in Elm Street all rolled into one..
