Sorolla Museum, Madrid

A well-loved museum in Madrid, and according to some reports, the best loved one.

All you need are roses, I wish.
(Some of these photos are from last year's temporary exhibition "Gardens of light").

Miracles happening

Sometimes, a little miracle happens, because there I was, on a glorious Sunday morning, just in the nick of time, waiting for the doors to open, just about to see an exhibition by a true master of painting.
Lucien Freud at the National Portrait Gallery, London
from 9 February -27 May

By the way, isn't this photo...

the distant cousin of this painting?

The muses

ff

If I didn't get my notes all mixed up these are representation of Clio, muse of history, Urania , muse of astronomy, and Thalia, muse of comedy

Other muses are:

- Melpomene....muse of tragedy
- Polyhymnia....muse of mime and song
- Erato...............muse of hymns and love songs
- Calliope...........muse of heroic song and elegy
and Terpsichore, muse of dance

2nd century AD, Pio-Clementine Museum, Vatican Museums

...If I ever learn how to paint properly I'll definitely redefine the muse question and find myself a male muse for inspiration...
