Free magenta

What do designers do when a business company claims a colour of the pantone and registers that colour at the European Brand Office in order to prevent other companies from using it in their advertising campaigns?

The colour in question is magenta.

And this is what they do:

"This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire, but it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires and lights in a box"

No, this was not said by Bill Gates about the internet. It was said by journalist Edward R. Murrow on October 15, 1958 about television.

It's just that I watched "Good night and good luck" yesterday. What an excellent film directed by my wishlist person. It makes you think that there are still so many values to be held, causes to be defended, and stands to be taken...today and everyday whatever it takes. And as someone once said, you can do it just by putting one word after another. The magical words.

Antonio López and realism

Madrid from Torres Blancas
(between 1976 and 1982)

Don't you just love Antonio López?

After this painting was sold by Christie's last Monday in London for 1,7 million € (highest price paid in the market for the work of a Spanish living painter) Mr. López said to the press (right after "Just one moment, my hands are dirty"):

"What really matters is that once the work becomes all that is left, there will be dignity in it"

"Art has an important place in my life and my work. I have been inspired by many painters and have always believed that art is not only a part of culture but also a part of life, that it should be shown to everybody and that museums should be supported and encouraged. Museums play a social role and have the task of educating the public, even if sometimes they are a source of shock and confusion. Thus a permanent dialogue is established between art and those who admire it. A museum is a living place. So is creation, even that of deceased or unknown artists"
Yves Saint Laurent
