The joy of cultural cooperation

What great presents we can get from those people who believe and work for cultural cooperation. [I have recently discovered other interesting concepts: "cultural diplomacy", "spiritual convergence" and "clicktivism"...we'll have to look into those. It's not all android, cloud, and hedge funds you know]. I wish I could go and see once more Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine (1489-1490), a painting that has left her home in Cracow and will spend some time in London for a while. This painting just glows and subdues with its solid splendor.

I finished reading Junichiro Tanisaki's book "In praise of shadows" some time ago. It got me thinking that I really agree when he says that it takes a lot of hiding and dark areas in the background for beauty to grasp our conscience.
Would there be any beauty in this blog if it did not hide so many things from everyday life? Don't we have to forget about injustice to enjoy any form of art?

Occupation: intellectual, poetess, influence important figures of her time, write letters.

Good friend: Michaelangelo Buonarrotti. They exchanged letters, she inspired him and he wrote poems to and about her. He also made a drawing of her , this one:

Oh yess. I loved to read this piece of news a couple of months ago:

A painting split in two pieces for three centuries and a half , finally on display as a whole for the exhibition "Landscape reunited" in Taiwan. The scroll painting is called “Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains", by artist Huang Gongwang (begun in 1347)

At the Spanish pavilion, where the artist proposal is a single piece which "draws on the sociologist Erving Goffman's thesis on inadecuacy", that "underlines the violent fragility of everything we consider adecuate", a project that is "a form of dissidence, of escaping from the centre. The Inadecuate responds to the need not to meet expectations of not being what is expected of one"........

...where there is a big platform at the centre of the pavilion where you can read "L'inadeguato, lo inadecuado, the inadecuate" written in huge letters, we are invited to see and yet not to see the 4 little signs at the edges of the platform where you can read the following:

And so I say, is this a sort of experiment on social psychological where we are invited to step on the platform and dance like crazy or are the little signs for real...?

Definitely art is not life.

I was very impressed by the the work of Fernando Prats showed at the Chilean pavilion. His project is called "Big South". I watched a video showing his epic search for "marks" by rubbing large sheets of paper against destroyed houses covered in ashes, streets and objects left behind after the eruption of the Chaitén vulcano and the 2009 earthquake in Chile. I've seen later that this is called "frottage", and that he uses techniques such as "smoke on paper", "rubble on paper"...

If you find yourself in Venice while the art biennale going on, you'll soon become familiar with these two terms: Arsenale and Giardini, the two main venues for exhibitions. The national pavilions are at the Giardini (gardens). The Arsenale is made up of the buildings that used to be the fortified shipyards at those times when Venice was a large commercial power in the Mediterranean sea back in the XV /XVI centuries. It's a huge, historical, quiet and amazing place right by the canals!
This year the Italian pavilion at the Arsenale had a section showing a large number of paintings in all the styles you can possibly imagine. I would like to show you some of these. This is the work of Michaelangelo's heirs and grand grand grand... children.

This exhibition focuses on a subject treasured by the Romantics: the view through an open window. German, French, Danish, and Russian artists first took up the theme in the second decade of the nineteenth century. Juxtaposing near and far, the window is a metaphor for unfulfilled longing. Painters distilled this feeling in pictures of hushed, spare rooms with contemplative figures; studios with artists at work; and open windows as the sole motif. As the exhibition reveals, these pictures may shift markedly in tone, yet they share a distinct absence of the anecdote and narrative that characterized earlier genre painting.
